ITINERARY

PRIVATE TOWNSHIP – KIRSTENBOSCH & ROBBEN ISLAND PRIVATE DAY TOUR

Departure 09:00 Am, you will be picked up by Guide/Driver from your Hotel/Guest House and proceed to LANGA oldest township in South Africa. On this township Small Group Tour, you will experience the diversity of Cape Town cultures. We visit the District six museums, where they will explain about District 6 a place demolished during the apartheid era. The District Six Museum recalls the history of a community that was forcibly removed in the apartheid era. In 1966 the National Party government declared District Six a “white group area” and moved thousands of residents (mostly colored and black people) to the Cape Flats, where they had few facilities or means of making a living. Nowadays, former residents and their descendants are rebuilding their memories and cultural heritage. We continue to pass GROOTE SCHUUR HOSPITAL, it where the first human heart transplant was performed by the Professor Doctor Christian Bernard in 1967, the patient who received a 25 years old heart lives only for 18 days after the operation, he died for a lung infection, but the operation was still seen as a success.

Our township – Kirstenbosch & Robben island private day tour will continue with walking to Langa Township: Langa is South Africa’s oldest township established in the 1920s; the Urban Areas Act was passed forcing blacks to live in locations. The name Langa literally means “Sun” in Xhosa, the language which is mostly spoken amongst black South Africans in The Western Cape Province. The true highlight of this tour will be the hour-long walk in the township where you will be able to interact with the incredibly strong people, who decided to take their future into their own hands. You will see how many people try to make a difference within their communities and that they contribute to a better future for the townships. You will also see how some people have lifted themselves from poverty and you will see how others are still trapped in poverty.

PRIVATE TOWNSHIP – KIRSTENBOSCH & ROBBEN ISLAND PRIVATE DAY TOUR

your visit at Township also benefits the local community, by exploring and participating in this township private tour you will not only help us to give back to these communities but you will get a first-hand experience of their rich culture. Get to visit the sangoma’s (traditional “healers”), the shebeen (local “Pub”) where you can taste “umqombothi” (traditional South African beer made from sorghum malt, maize, and yeast). This township private tour will help you find and discover homemade arts and crafts. You may want to visit a few centers and shops in the local market. After 3 hours we will proceed to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens pass by the oldest university in the country dating back 1829, UNIVERSITY OF CAPE TOWN originally known as South African College School, it was in Cape Town City, the main Campus moved to the present location in 1925 and its part of the land Cecil John Rhodes gives back to the Nation (Western Cape government), one of the former students to this University is BILL CLINTON the former president the USA. The university now is about 15000 students.

THE NAME KIRSTENBOSCH

First appeared in 1795, when it was listed on an inventory of property drawn up and handed over to the British occupying forces, but the origin of the name is uncertain. It suggests a link to the Kirsten family, the Botanic Garden was established in 1913 to promote, conserve and display the extraordinarily rich and diverse flora of Southern Africa, and was the first botanic garden in the world to be devoted to a country’s indigenous flora. Thereafter we will proceed to Robben Island for your 15:00 Cruise.

ROBBEN ISLAND

ROBBEN ISLAND is a small landmass located just seven kilometers (four miles) off the coast of Cape Town, in Table Bay. The island is a UNESCO World Heritage site and has served as a whaling station, a leper colony and most notably as a prison, where Nelson Mandela spent 18 years of his 27 years of incarceration before being elected as the country’s first democratic president. Robben Island is a stark reminder of the apartheid system, and a symbol of the triumph of the human spirit over adversity, suffering, and injustice, the maximum-security prison is now a museum where daily tours are conducted by ex-political prisoners. Every year, thousands of tourists visit the island to understand South Africa’s past and view the tiny cell where Nelson Mandela lived for 18 years. Our professional tour guide will drop you at your hotel or guesthouse doorsteps after dinner.
